Growing Egg Plant Second Growing Season Zone 8

I planted this Eggplant back in the spring and he has shown to be a truly great producer. The oriental eggplant has been a great surprise to us with regards to harvest, taste, and texture. Here in GA the Second Growing season is in full swing and Mr Egg Plant is Showing his full appreciation, by setting forth several new flowers. Eggplants like tomatoes have the Perfect flower which means each flower has both male and female reproductive parts. For track stars this may not be a good thing, but for plants it is an efficient way to reproduce. We look forward to harvesting more Eggplants this season.

Lucky you with a second growing season mild enough for egg plants. A little too cold here in the winter. Not sure why I didn't think of egg plant for the garden this year, but they're on my list for next. I think I'll try the oriental type. Nothing much prettier than egg plant freshly picked . . .

Really Rose- The Oriental Eggplant taste so wonderful, it doesn't matter if it is grilled, sauteed, or tempora it is truly wonderful. I can't say the same for the american variety it just taste a bit to bitter for me. Look forward to your post of the eggplant in the future.

RuralRose- It's truly a blessing to live in this Zone. But it also has it's Down falls. I Look forward to running in the fall weather. But here its just way to humid and hot. The plants love and so do the blood sucking mosquitos. we can't even stay in our backyard for 1 min without recieving 20 bites.
