New PCs every 2-3 years Big Sigh;(

Over the past several years My wife and I have purchased a new LapTop every two or three years. I don't know whats going on. It seems like we take turns on buying new PCs. The latest chaos came when all of a sudden my whole screen had fuzzy lines. At first I thought it was a virus but then I thought No way, because I have really good virus protection and with a little more research I found out that my video card and motherboard has gone bad. BUMMER! oh well...... this time around I didn't get all the bells and whistles. I wanted to buy a mac but I wasn't convinced that it would be an easy transition from windows. Im a bit of a hermit when it comes to my likes and dislikes. Im pretty set in my ways. But nonetheless, I really don't see all the hype with windows 7. I was expecting some sort of Star Trek experience but instead it's like blah........ All in all I am pretty tough on my PCs I put them through more than what the average person does with regards to my travels So I guess I shouldn't be such a sour puss. But anyways I guess purchasing a new PC does help in some sort of way by stimulating the economy. I just hate to spend money.

We've got the same thing going here. Three years ago, we lost BOTH laptops within a week of each other. And this past September, mine died on our trip, taking all the photos with it.
I look at it this way-our computers are always up to date!!
Have a great week.

I'm a tried and true Mac user. i've got a PC laptop at work but I LOVE my Mac. I don't think you'd be disappointed. But then, I may be biased....

ATW, maybe you're not as hard on laptops as you think. There is an article out just now on yahoo that says a "study of 30K laptops has determined that a third will die within three years". I guess it goes without saying, "they just don't make stuff like they used too".
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

I had to buy a new PC recently. I bought my very first laptop. I like it, and I'm happy with the purchase (so far), but I'm annoyed that I had to get a new one so soon after buying my most recent desktop. I buy a new computer about every three years, too, and I don't think I'm that hard on them.

It's planned obsolescence, and frankly, it pisses me off! I wish things were made to last a little longer.

WOW Guys!! I thought it was just me. Thinking a little more in debt I realize that it does no good for these manufactures to produce something that last forever. I know this is totally unrelated but this is why Crocs the sandle maker had to file for bankruptcy. They made a superior product and when someone buys a pair of crocs they never need to replace them. So inventory was up but eventually sales went down. So I guess it makes sense to make something with a shelf life. It just sucks to be me and you (Shaking my Head))
