The First ladys' Garden

Looking at pictures of the First Lady on her hands and knees tending to her new vegetable garden is a powerful sight for me. I come from an organization where my leaders are active in leading from the front and this active role the First Lady has taken to grow vegetables on the White House Lawn is extremely inspirational.

Every Day I drive around my town and I see land that is just going to waste. I can tell the by the lush grass the soil is good and there is this burning desire in me to want to dig and plant all over my city. I know that my efforts will soon give way to pilfers and trampled on by people who need to take shortcuts from street to the next. But I also see these same people working and having a source of income from their hard labor or paying for crimes through community service in the form of a sophisticated gardening effort. Our Country has come full circle and now we are back in the age of where self-sufficiency and local grown are being realized as the standard. We still have a long way to go, but it's a good start when our White House is leading the way. Impressive! What affect will a White House vegetable Garden have on our country?

I knew for some time that the President and and the first lady were consulting with grassroot groups from around the US about establishing an edible lawn for their kitchen and today it's official. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/20/dining/20garden.html

I personally think it's a great idea to plant vegetables on the White House lawn. The impact that is going to send across the country is going to be amazing. This single act may have just very well propelled our generation into a different direction, where citizens strive to maintain healthy lives and march on the path towards self-sustainability. According to the report they will grow 55 different vegetables and fruits except beets because the President hates beets. He should read my blog on trying it twice.

Election Day

My mom is from Africa, Like real live Africa. I like to say like African booty scratcher Africa but she doesn't like that. But anyway I am from descendants of free slaves that were brought over here to the US and then they returned to Liberia (FreeTown). My mom told me today that she would never have thought in her lifetime that an African American would ever be nominated for President of the United States. Although I grew up in a very different world than my mom and have not experienced racial injustice like she has it's hard for me to "Just" look at the fact that Obama is Black.

I wouldn't vote for someone just because he is black. I am sure that there are those that will. I am sure that there are whites and blacks from the Civil rights era who will only vote because the presidential canidate is black. Im not mad at them, especially when I saw a women flip a coin today and made her decision just on that. WTF!!!! But oh well what ever floats their boat.

Nevertheless, today is the big day. Tomorrow morning our future can be totally different. But whatever way it goes this is not the time to let up. High gas prices, Two wars, Housing crisis, and job loss has spiraled our country into something that we are not use to and I personally think it's imperative that we all look at what can do to make a difference in our personal lives.
