Growing potatoes in a bucket

I decided to grow potatoes in a large bucket this year. For awhile the seed potatoes were just sitting there and I started to lose faith in there ability to grow. Until one day a few days ago I saw that there was a vine coming straight up. From what I read about growing potatoes in a bucket is that you have to let the vine grow a little and add dirt so that the leaves just show and let it grow some more and add more dirt and then keep on doing that until the leaves are growing outside the bucket. Apparently when the leaves start to die is when the harvesting of potatoes can begin. We look forward to garlic mash this summer.
